Rotterdam (Klassik.TV) – In his keynote speech, young Canadian conductor Nézet-Séguin adresses the fact that performing classical music is essentially a way of communicating with the audience. Therefore, it is essential for the performer to nuture and cultivate a strong and sincere emotional bridge to their listeners. As times change, this bridge might also be subject to variations. This includes new venues, new dress codes and maybe also an entirely new repertoire. Nézet-Séguin encourages all classical performers to dare to always renew this emtional bridge, and never cease to explore new approaches in doing so. Not the tradition per se is the value of classical music, but the emotional bondage between performers and audience.
